In case you haven’t heard it, HGTV is doing their annual Dream Home giveaway.  This year’s home is located in the Florida Keys and frankly it isn’t my favorite house that HGTV has given away.  However, I could certainly sell this house and build my “dream home” in the location I want with the features I want.  Which causes me to ask the obvious question… What features, location, and decor would make your Dream Home?

For me the location must have a view.  Ocean view, lake view, mountain view I would have to have one of them.  I think I would actually prefer an ocean view.  In particular I would like it to be ocean surf.   There are absolutely some incredible properties along the Oregon coast that would qualify for this requirement.

Features that are important to me would would include windows and lots of them! Big stone fireplaces (yes fireplaces as in more than 1).  I really like the open floor plans that have the great room concept.  So it would have to have that and of course that would need to be on the side of the house that faced my view.  On the opposite side of the house a formal living room and dining room.  I’d also like a den that has wall to wall bookcases.   A kitchen with all the bells and whistles including professional grade appliances, stone countertops and cabinets with all of the pull-outs.

As far as the decor is concerned nothing too over the top.  I like color but warmer earth tones.  Leather is always nice.  Lots of dark stained wood.  I particularly like Knotty Alder. 

So what would it be for you?  If you won the HGTV Dream Home would it fit the bill for you?
