WordPress Bloggers – New Version do I NEED It?

Wordpress LogoI opened my WordPress Admin Dashboard this morning and was notified of a new update.  I read what Westi had to say on his blog WordPress 2.3.2 in Detail and while I do use Drafts I can’t help but wonder if it is worth the effort to update when the 2.4 version of WordPress is scheduled for less than a month from now.  Obviously they thought it was important enough to release…also makes me wonder if we might see a delay in the Jan 24th time-frame.

You WordPress experts… what are your thoughts… Is this upgrade something that EVERY WordPress blogger should be installing or are we OK to wait until 2.4?

  1. OK… so I went ahead and upgraded… I figured I had some time today and I was tweaking things anyway to get the webcams to work so I figured why not!!!!

Pretty simple upgrade… Basically just uploaded it all with overwrite turned on.

  2. It isn’t a matter of need. It’s a matter of security. You decide from there.

  3. Oh, and one more thing, you just announced to the world your version. You’ve just told hackers that your blog is open for hacking.

I’m not being nasty, I just wanted you to think about that risk. I’d hate to see your post be the reason for something bad to happen.

  4. I actually did the update… thinking just as you did that I now announced that I was on the older version.

  5. [...] on her blog – Lorelle on WordPress- that the 2.4 version of WordPress as I speculated in my previous post will be delayed and in fact the 2.4 release may be skipped entirely for the 2.5 release in March. [...]
